A blush taxonomy

I went through my makeup stash in an attempt to shame myself into a no-buy (May; anyone else in?) because I really have enough to be getting on with. It ended in me arranging my blushes according to colour, including bronzers and highlighters (mainly because of the Nars palette which has all three, and my brain just would not let me stop at blushes; don't shoot me). Not all the colours photographed accurately, unfortunately, but you get the idea.

blush bronzer highlighter

  1. Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base: I'm still figuring out how to use this, actually.
  2. MAC Sur (Mickey Contractor collection): good for sculpting, even though it's not really a contouring shade on me.
  3. Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Luminous Bronzing Powder in 917 Sable Rose (limited edition): a rosy blush-slash-bronzer shade on me.
  4. Nars Blush Bronzer Trio, containing Laguna Bronzer, Albatross Highlighting Blush, Orgasm Blush (limited edition): ah, one of my better Trade Me finds. The zip case is a little annoying, but a great way to try out all three cult shades without the paying out the nose for New Zealand's Nars prices. Orgasm is very, very similar to #13 when on my cheeks.
  5. Shiseido Accentuating Color Stick in S3 Glistening Flush (discontinued): this and #9 were on clearance at a local pharmacy. I have no idea why Shiseido discontinued these, because they are beautiful. S3 is a champagne-y highlighter shade.
  6. Benefit Girl Meets Pearl Highlighter (mini size from Primping with the Stars kit): a pearly (really?!) highlighter with a pink base which you see as you blend it out. Really pretty!
  7. Benefit High Beam (mini size from Feelin' Dandy kit): haven't used this yet.
  8. Benefit Benetint (mini size from Primping with the Stars kit): I haven't made my mind up about this yet. Definitely pretty subtle and skin-like on me.
  9. Shiseido Accentuating Color Stick in S4 Rouge Flush (discontinued): a gorgeous red with subtle shimmer. See #5.
  10. MAC Casual Colour in Hi Jinks (Playland collection): I picked this up fairly recently, and have been liking it under my foundation for a subtle coral peeking through.
  11. Clarins Instant Light Blush in 02 Coral Tonic: this practically disappears on me (NC35), leaving a bit of a glow. The shimmer is noticeable in daylight.
  12. Benefit Posie Tint (mini size from Feelin' Dandy kit): haven't used this yet.
  13. Chanel Joues Contraste in 82 Reflex: I think this was one of my first high-end purchases, period. I had it used on me instore for a makeover, deliberated over it, then found it on Strawberrynet.
  14. BYS Blush Trio in Endless Summer: trio of coral shades. Not bad for $5.75!
  15. BYS Blush Trio in On the Brightside: bright pink shades.
  16. MAC Blush Ombre in Vintage Grape (Daphne Guinness collection): this is so pretty. Comes out as a plummy colour on me.
  17. Bobbi Brown Blush in 11 Nectar: my very first blush <3 I don't know why I don't have more Bobbi Brown blushes (well, apart from the price, although I did get this on Strawberrynet). This is wonderfully pigmented, but sheers out to a subtle flush.
  18. BYS Blush Trio in Heart Skipped a Beat: cooler pinks.
  19. Benefit Dandelion (mini size from Feelin' Dandy kit): haven't used this yet.

I would love to hear about the state of your makeup stash. Do you own any of these?
