Champagne taste, beer budget #2: Poppy King x No.7

The Lipstick Queen range seems to have departed from our fair isles. It's such a shame, as it was a solid range of quality lip products, and it's weird that they are still available overseas. They seem to be back in Australia, though, from the looks of the Kit Cosmetics website. I remember them going on clearance last year at Farmers, and I regret not picking up some of the Saints lipsticks then.

However, there's now an extremely affordable alternative to the Saints sheer lipsticks. Poppy King has a collaboration with Boots No.7 which first came out about three years ago, and it's finally available here now that the No.7 brand has returned to New Zealand (for the third time! Maybe it'll stick this time around).

Look at the cute polka-dotted boxes! Each comes with a little note from Poppy inside.

There is a range of seven lipsticks, of which five are available at Postie Plus stores, along with a limited selection of No.7 products. They are all named after different aspects of lipstick, or the feelings they inspire. I picked up History, Intrigue, and Allure, and I've compared them to the Lipstick Queen products I currently own (Medieval, Red Sinner, and Nude Sinner).

1. LQ Medieval / 2. PK History / 3. LQ Red Sinner / 4. PK Intrigue / 5. LQ Nude Sinner / 6. PK Allure

They are wee little things, and contain 3.5 grams of product. Not too bad for $10 each, compared to Lipstick Queen's 4 grams of product for around $30 when they were still sold here. The packaging isn't quite as substantial as the LQ tubes though.

The texture is very emollient and balm-like, and really comfortable to wear on the lips. They are rather sheer, lasting maybe 2-3 hours on me, but reapplication is really easy and low maintenance.

History applies as a bright, sheer red, and I feel like that it's what I wanted Medieval to be. Intrigue is very similar to Medieval, actually, kind of brightening the lips with a hint of red. Allure is quite a good MLBB shade on me, being a warm peachy-beige.

What do you reckon -- worth a go? I think these are definitely good everyday colours if you like a more toned down look. Probably not worth a look in if you prefer the bolder or matte lipsticks.
