So I went a little blush palette crazy at Kmart.
Not bad for $5 each! The pigmentation's really good, although a couple of the colours are a little chalky and stiff in the pan. I haven't tried them all on my face, but I'd hazard a guess that they'd work pretty well even when slightly chalky. BYS is a budget brand from Australia -- I'd seen their nail polishes and eyeshadows around before, but to be honest they always looked a little junky to me. This was a nice surprise.
The Heart Skipped A Beat trio contains pinky-plum shades -- I would describe them as having a satin finish. The middle shade bears some resemblance to my Bobbi Brown Blush in Nectar, while the third shade is a more pigmented version of my MAC Blush Ombre in Vintage Grape.
On The Brightside is pretty aptly named, containing bright pinks. The middle fuschia shade is matte, while the other two are satin with a slight shimmer. These aren't as scary as they look -- just apply with a very light hand, perhaps with a stippling brush.
My favourite of the lot, Endless Summer, contains corals, and the middle shade is slightly more shimmery than the other two. At first glance I thought this might be a dupe for Nars Orgasm, but no -- Orgasm is way more iridescent and less pigmented. (In the process I also discovered that Nars Orgasm is practically identical to my Chanel Joues Contraste in Reflex 82.)
The arm swatches are pretty colour-accurate but for some reason the actual palette has turned up quite a bit cooler than in real life. Sorry about that.
I also picked up the BYS brush style concealer, three-dot liner, and HD finishing powder with this lot, all for less than $35. I'll be giving them a go over the next week -- so far the concealer is pretty thick and cakey, but the other two are pretty reasonable quality.
